Community involvement

May 6th, 2008 by Julian Ang

I have always been involved in social projects and organizations. This section describes the most important ones.

Team manager and webmaster for the TV 1848 Erlangen

The TV 1848 Erlangen is the largest sports organization in the area of Erlangen. It has more than 5000 members and serves the city with numerous services in the area of sports and health.

From 2002 until 2008 I have not only been a member of the badminton teams, playing in the official leagues and tournaments, but I have also worked as the team manager and webmaster for the badminton department.

After moving to Berlin recently I am already starting to engage within another sports organization - the Berlin Sports Club.

As the team manager my tasks were:

  • Organizing the team setup of 30 players
  • Leading one team directly during seasonal games
  • Mediating the interests and demands of each team
  • Organizing seasonal games
  • Communicating with teams of other clubs in the official leagues
  • Organizing regular tournaments

As the webmaster I designed, programmed, and maintain the website of the badminton department, which serves as a communication- and news-platform.
Details about the webpage can be seen in the "Personal" section.

Organisation and leading of youth camps

The Student Mission Germany (Studenten Mission Deutschland, SMD) organizes international youth camps for school and university students from all over Germany. The services range from short weekend camps with themed seminars to several week-long trips in foreign countries.

Up to 60 participants are led by a team of 5 to 15 people. The leading team is in charge of the complete planning, running and supervision of the youth camps.

I have been part of the leading teams on several youthcamps because I enjoy the following challenges:

  • Developing an effective and cooperative team
  • Working flexibly in a dynamic social setting
  • Planning and implementing challenging and appealing tasks for the participants
  • Analyzing and modifying social structures amongst the participants
  • Supporting and supervising adolescents
